Youtube Promoted Videos on Adsense - Video StillsThere has been a massive and encouraging change in the World Wide Web since the famous video-sharing portal, YouTube became popular. Today, there is a huge number of users uploading new content on this website. It is natural for users to publicize their uploaded videos through different channels and attract viewers to their content. However, apart from the traditional ways of advertising, Google Adsense brings an out-of-the-ordinary way of publicizing ones video content – YouTube Promoted Videos in Adsense ad units!

So, what are Promoted videos?

Basically, it is any kind of video hosted on YouTube, ranging from trailers of movies to demos of products. Its creators promote these videos in order to reach other visitors. On YouTube.com, these Promoted videos appear alongside the search results and on partner watch pages. Now, these videos would be extended to AdSense websites so that it is beneficial to both ends of the business: the content creators would get a broader range of visitors, while AdSense site owners would earn more money through these visits! As of now, these ads are only available in English and to the content creators of the United States of America. However, it is a known fact that more regions and languages would be supported in the near future.

As we discuss about Promoted videos, it is important to know that they contain a thumbnail image along with three lines of text, and after the thumbnail has been clicked upon, the user can view the video or the channel on the YouTube website. Since, these are contextually targeted to the AdSense pages, earnings would be on a cost-per-click (CPC) model. There are different ad formats for the same, and considering the fact that one opts for displaying of both text and image, one can chose from the following options: 300×250 Medium Rectangle, 336×280 Large Rectangle, 728×90 Leader board, 250×250 Square, and 200×200 Small Square. The promoted videos follow the traditional procedure of competing in standard ad auction, and thus drive up the competition among advertisers who indulge in bidding. The winning video is displayed alone in one of the ad formats.

There are certain policies that the videos must be compliant with, like the YouTube Advertising Policy, AdSense Terms of Use and Community Guidelines. As a security measure, AdSense users can also prevent Promoted Videos from being displayed on their pages, by adding the YouTube website to the Ad Filter list. However, that would mean that all such videos would be blocked.

However, the Promoted Videos from YouTube are different from the normal video ads, which actually are advertisements in video format, and are classified as image ads. Such ads like Promoted Videos from YouTube provide better opportunities to AdSense publishers to increase their revenue to a large extent.
